Yugur. The center cultivates teachers for ethnic minority
basic courses for senior middle schools, secondary technical
schools and some branches of learning of institutions
of higher learning. To meet the need for teachers in
remote and frontier regions, with financial support
from the state, normal schools in the hinterland enroll
students from those regions with lower academic standards,
who go back where they come from upon graduation. At
present, a teacher training network for ethnic minority
areas has taken shape, a network which has secondary
normal schools and normal colleges as the backbone and
includes ethnic minority teacher-training classes in
general normal schools, EM teachers training centers
and teacher-training specialities of some universities
and nationalities institutes.
A contingent
of qualified EM teachers big enough to meet the need
of educational requirements of China's ethnic minority
people is the key to developing EM education. The system
of EM teacher education has turned out large numbers
of EM teachers for schools of different kinds. Teachers
hired by local communities who have been on the job
for many years are given the state employee status if
they pass a qualifying test.
